Frequently Asked Questions
What is the meaning behind the couple's crest, and where will it appear during the wedding?
The couple’s custom crest is a meaningful reflection of their shared journey and values. It incorporates symbols representing their professions— balanced scales and a gavel for the bride’s career as an attorney, and a handpiece and toothbrush for the groom, who is an oral surgeon. At the top left of the crest is the iconic Old Well, a nod to their time together at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they both completed their undergraduate studies and later returned for law and dental school.
Surrounding the crest are blooms of the dogwood and peony, representing the state flowers of North Carolina, where they both grew up, and Indiana, where they currently live and continue to build their life together while the groom completes his oral and maxillofacial training.
You’ll see the crest featured throughout the celebration, including on the invitations, signage, and custom details during the reception. It’s a beautiful emblem of where they’ve come from, what they’ve achieved, and the life they are building together.
Is there a wedding hashtag?

When and where is the wedding taking place?
Our ceremony and reception will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026. Please refer to the Wedding page for exact timing, address, and venue information.
When is the RSVP deadline?
Formal invitations will be sent out closer to the wedding, and RSVP details will be included at that time. Please note that the RSVP deadline will be June 25, 2026. We kindly ask for timely responses to help us plan accordingly.
What time will the gates close for the ceremony?
To ensure an uninterrupted and intimate ceremony, the gates will close promptly at 5:15pm. We kindly ask all guests to arrive at least 15-30 minutes early to allow time for parking and seating. Late arrivals will be asked to wait until the conclusion of the ceremony.
Is the wedding outside?
Yes! Our ceremony will be outdoors. The cocktail hour and reception will be indoors and outdoors.
Can I take photos during the ceremony?
We kindly request an unplugged ceremony - please refrain from taking photos or videos so our photographers and videographers can capture the moment, and so all guests may be fully present. Feel free to take as many photos as you like during the reception!
What is the dress code?
We kindly request black tie attire in ALL black. Gentlemen are encouraged to wear black tuxedos or tailored black suits and ladies are invited to wear floor-length black gowns or elegant black evening ensembles. We encourage you to embrace the formality and bring your most refined accessories. For more information, please visit our Attire page.
May I bring a guest?
We are so honored to celebrate this special day with our closest family and friends. Due to the intimate nature of our wedding, we are only able to accommodate the guests listed on the invitation. Unless your invitation specifically includes a guest, we kindly ask that you attend solo. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to celebrating together!
Are children invited?
While we love your little ones, our celebration will be an adults-only event. We hope this allows you to relax and enjoy the evening with us!
What airport should I fly into?
We recommend flying into RDU - Raleigh-Durham International Airport. It is the main airport serving the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Cary) region and conveniently located near both hotel accommodations.
Which accommodation should I choose, The Umstead or the Embassy Suites, and how far apart are they from each other?
The Umstead Hotel and Spa offers an elevated, luxury experience, while the Embassy Suites by Hilton Raleigh Durham Research Triangle provides spacious suites, complimentary breakfast, and complimentary airport shuttle. Both are excellent options and located just about half a mile from each other (2-4 minute drive or a 10-12 minute walk). We will provide transportation to and from both accommodations to the wedding venue.
Will there be transportation from the accommodations to the wedding?
Yes! We will provide transportation from the wedding hotels, the Umstead Hotel and Spa and the Embassy Suites.
More information will be provided closer to the wedding.
